At PPNS, we see parents and teachers as true teammates, working together for the well-being and happiness of each child who attends the school. We are not a co-op, so there is no mandatory requirement for parents to help in our classrooms, but we love partnering with you! Please note that some of the items below have been curtailed as we continue to cope with the COVID pandemic and practice social distancing. Our Children’s Christmas Celebration, field trips, and parents in the classroom are temporarily suspended.
- At the beginning of each year, we ask for volunteers to serve as room parents for each of our five classes. This involves helping teachers if needed, and organizing the class crafts and baskets for our annual Children’s Christmas Celebration. The room parents also very kindly host a teacher appreciation luncheon in May.
- Parents are also invited to serve as members of our nursery school board, either as parent representatives for our three age groups, as our Children’s Christmas Celebration liaison, or in any other capacity.
- Parents are always welcome in our classrooms at any time and often enjoy sharing a favorite book or family tradition, talking about their interests and professions, or just spending some time with the children and teachers. Our older classes take occasional field trips to local farms or the library and parents are invited to accompany the group whenever they wish.
- When we consider programmatic changes, we hold focus groups with parents to gain an understanding of what classes and enrichment offerings meet the needs of our children and families.
