Pennington Presbyterian Nursery School

A Typical Day at PPNS

A typical day at Pennington Presbyterian Nursery School includes a predictable schedule, a mix of individual, small group and large group exploration, active and quiet times, and activities that are both teacher-directed and child-directed.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, our music teacher leads lessons in singing, playing instruments, moving to music and learning concepts such as rhythm, tempo and note recognition.  Two-year-old old classes have 20-minute music sessions and three and four-year-old classes have 30-minute music sessions.

Our school is committed to providing healthy snacks during the day.  We do not serve juice at snack time, but give the children a choice of 2% milk or water.  Each snack is planned to include a protein, whole grain, and fruit or vegetable.  A typical snack might consist of cheese or yogurt, apples, bananas, carrots or peppers and whole grain crackers or pretzels. Children often help prepare snack by baking or cooking with their teachers.  Snack in the three and four year old classes is served family style; children are encouraged to pour their own beverages from child-sized pitchers and ask each other to pass plates of food. On birthdays and special occasions, snacks from home are always welcome.

Our school also is privileged to have an extensive science curriculum developed by Bristol-Myers Squibb called BLAST Pre-K.  Science units are incorporated into each age group's units of study throughout the year.

A Typical Two-Year-Old Day
The rainbow is the overall theme for the two-year-old classes.  Two-year-old classes focus on developing social skills and learning to be part of a group.
